Egyptian Excitement!

Last week Year 5 had an Egyptian bonanza, with both a trip and an art day!

"Miss, can we fist bump that arm?"

On our trip we started off our day in the upper galleries. We looked at many artefacts that the children had previously only read about, or saw pictures of in our topic lessons. The most popular items were of course the mummies, the children were fascinated to see how well preserved they were!

As you can see, "ginger" was very popular

After that, we had a quick lunch before exlporing the galleries on the lower floor. Here the children saw gigantic statues, huge stone plaques and ginormous carcophagi! Children also had a booklet to complete, in which they had to answer questions about the statues.

The children’s behaviour was excellent and both children and staff had a fabulous day.

The next day we continued the theme, with the whole year group having a whole day of activities dedicated solely to Egyptian art. Inspired by our trip, the children designed canopic jars, hieroglyphic bookmarks, pyramids and an Egyptian tiles.

As you can see things got a little messy! Our thanks go out to parents/carers for bringing in pringles cans, newspapers and aprons. Without you none of this would have been possible!

We will be continuing these projects during our art lessons throughout the rest of the term and look forward to children taking them home so you can see their handiwork in person
