World Book Day Wonders!

We had a wonderful World Book Day in year 1 and did lots of fun learning and making together! We started off the day showing off our costumes and telling our friends about our book characters. Then we spent time thinking about why reading is fun, including all of the different characters we get to meet and places we can travel to in our imaginations when we read a book.

We also discussed how useful books can be for finding information. They can be used to learn new skills, find recipes and discover more about things we are interested in! We came up with a whole list of places that would be fun to read a book including at the park, in the garden, in a den we’ve built, tucked into bed, relaxing on the sofa or even at the beach!

Later in the morning, we began choosing objects out of a mixed box, one at a time, to use in our own made up stories. Each class created their own characters and settings and brought them to life in a story that the children decided upon. They thought of some wonderful adjectives to describe and thoroughly enjoyed working as a team to make an exciting story! We also decorated our own front covers for the story that we made. We are going to be sharing each classes’ story with you when we have had a bit more time to work on illustrations and assemble our book! Look out for the upcoming blog posts!

We enjoyed getting creative in the afternoon and creating our own bookmarks and lolly stick puppets and using them to retell some of our favourite stories that we know. We had a lovely day all in all and can’t wait to see what next year’s World Book Day brings.
