This week in Science the Year 3 children have been learning about which living things are classified as vertebrates or invertebrates and what this means. The children worked together to classify and group the animals, deciding whether they have or do not have a spine or backbone.
The children also learnt an interesting fact: a tortoise actually is classified as a vertebrate as its backbone is attached to its shell. A tortoise’s shell means it also has an exoskeleton for protection.
Have a look at these videos from BBC Bitesize for more information about vertebrates and invertebrates.
