There are several learning links on this page if you are looking for homework help or online activities. We have lots of exciting learning to look forward to so keep checking back on the blog to find out what we are up to in Year 3.

Enrichment – Orienteering

We have had a busy few weeks starting in Year 3 and learning the new routines but we still found time to have some fun exploring our school grounds.

The Year 3 children completed an orienteering task during their Enrichment time and had fun collaborating with friends from other Year 3 classes. They had to read map locations and find the clues around our school outdoor area to solve and correct spelling problems.

The children combined map reading skills, with spelling learning and added on some active minutes to their daily total on Friday afternoon, all while having fun with their friends. Great work Year 3! You are becoming orienteering experts.

Science – vertebrates and invertebrates

This week in Science the Year 3 children have been learning about which living things are classified as vertebrates or invertebrates and what this means. The children worked together to classify and group the animals, deciding whether they have or do not have a spine or backbone.
The children also learnt an interesting fact: a tortoise actually is classified as a vertebrate as its backbone is attached to its shell. A tortoise’s shell means it also has an exoskeleton for protection.

Have a look at these videos from BBC Bitesize for more information about vertebrates and invertebrates.
